CLASSIC CODY 'N GOLD

"Somewhere...somewhere in time's own space

There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again"
Stanley Harrison

Cody was a great stallion.  I still remember the day I first saw him.  A good friend of mine, Faith Gustafson, had called and asked if I were interested in another stallion.  I already had Blue and really wasn't in the market for another horse, never mind another stallion.  I feel in love with his gold color and his long mane and tail.  His forelock hung almost to the end of his nose.  He had a gorgeous head and a great nature.  So Cody moved to Sugarfoot Farm.

We've had several foals out of this guy.  One of the most beautiful was "Banjo's Golden Fiddle".  Plus we have one of his sons "Sampson" who is a miracle foal and is out of our "Pretty Pony".  No matter how long it had been since you rode him you could saddle him up and off he'd go.

Cody had a way with the women.  One of our broodmares "Skeeter" go loose one day and decided he was the man of her dreams.  All it took was one time and she was bred.  Our little "Pretty Pony" loved him to death.  Whenever she got loose she'd make a mad dash for Cody and spend as long as she could standing at his stall door.

The one who loved him the most was our Percheron mare "Rose".  When we first moved to Columbia Rose got out of the pasture and trotted up the road to Cody's corral.  She convinced him to jump the fence so they could get better acquainted.  I was home alone so I figured my best bet was to lead Rose and Cody would follow.  Good idea except Rose wouldn't budge.  So Rose stood in the middle of the road while Cody bred her - right in front of a car with three children in the back seat who were being taken to school by their parents.  Once the feat was done, Rose quietly moved to the side of the road so the car could pass and Cody meekly followed us back to the barn.  Luckily the parents weren't offended and laughed and said their kids got their sex education for the day.

For two years In September I was an ambassador for the  Quarter Horse Association at the "Out Here With Horses" held at Tractor Supply stores throughout the country.  I brought Cody to show horse lovers  how  versataille the Quarter Horse is.  He was the perfect gentleman and had lots of admirers. This is a photo of Cody with two of his fans.

Please sign our Guest Book and tell us stories you have about Cody or if you own any of his foals please send a picture.
