RESCUE PAGE

Did you know?

Every year in our country 6-8 million unwanted cats and dogs enter shelters,
1/3 to 1/2 are killed when homes cannot be found for them.
Millions more stray or abandoned animals never make it to a shelter,
and die premature deaths from accidents, starvation and disease.

In just six years, one female dog and her offspring can be the source of 67,000 puppies!
(her puppies grow up and have puppies, etc)

In just seven years one female cat and her offspring can be the source of 420,000 kittens.

Be the solution, not part of the problem.
Make a difference, save some lives!
SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS!

BAGGAGE
(From the shelter dog)
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into a warm new bed,
Lest I forget, There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.

Hmm...Yes there it is,
Right on top - let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache, and Loss
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame

As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me.
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?
Will  you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things and take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage to never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm tired you see.

But I do come with baggage - will you still want me?

ADOPT AN OLDER ANIMAL

"Wolfie"
He was left at the shelter because he was "too old" and his owners wanted a puppy.

Puppies and  kittens are certainly cute, but remember they grow up rapidly.  Not every household is the right place for a young animal.
They shed, chew on things, need to learn where to go to the bathroom, and are amazingly energetic.
You must have the time and patience to devote to their training for them to become good, well behaved pets.
Older animals, however, may have already been housebroken, neutered/spayed and leash trained.
They need the comfort and love of a stable home and of course, lots of TLC (Tender Loving Care).
In return, their affection and devotion are quite remarkable.
They make wonderful companions!

DOGS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OTHER THAN AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOGS

“Brutus & Maggie”
Brutus is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. He’s a 3 month old male.  He’s very handsome and very friendly.
Maggie is a Bloodhound mix.  She’s 3 months old, laid back, a real sweetheart.

            “Brutus”                                                           “Maggie”

“Sid” -  is a year old male Lab/Chow mix.  His owners moved and couldn’t take him.  He was very shy at first but has become a great dog.  He’s great with kids and cats and prefers to stay in the house.

                  “Martha”                                                   “Maverick”

“Martha” & “Maverick” - This sister & brother are Bassett/Husky mixes.  They are 6 months old.  Martha loves the water and Maverick has the prettiest blue eyes.  They’re both very friendly.

“Kirby” - He’s a 6 month old Pit Bull mix.  I hate to stay ‘Pit Bull” because they have such a bad reputation but he’s just about the coolest, friendliest, most loving dog you could ask for.  He likes nothing better than to lay next to you.
He hasn’t shown any aggression towards the other dogs at all.

“Lucy” - She’s a young adult yellow Lab cross.  She is very friendly and loves attention.  Like any Lab she’d be a great family dog.

“Patti” - is a female Cocker Spaniel that just loves to snuggle.  She would be perfectly content to sit in your lap all day long.  She’d be a perfect companion for an elderly person or someone who wants a nice, quiet, snuggly dog.

"Pepper" -  is a mixed breed female, possibly Lab/Aussie cross.  She’s an Amish dog we found tied to a barbed wire fence, all tangled up, with no food or water.  Her owners moved and left her tied in the yard.  Her collar was embedded into her neck.  She’s a little overwhelmed by all of the dogs here.  She loves attention & will sit on your lap as long as you will pet her.  She’s a sweetheart and would love (and deserves) a good home.

"Lana" -  is a 9 month old female Catahoula mix.  She is a beautiful dog & very loving.  She was with us for three days before she untucked her tail from between her legs so will need time before she’d settle into a new home.  Once she realized she was safe she’s become a very devoted dog.  She’ll ride in the truck and never leaves my side.

"Savannah" -  is another Catahoula mix.  I think she’s part water rat.  She loves to lay in the pool or dig in the water bucket.  If she’s wet – she’s happy.  She gets along great with all of the other dogs and loves to play.  She’s just about the happiest dog you’ll ever meet.

"Markie" -  is a Cocker Spaniel/Beagle mix.  He’s another snuggler and lover.  Despite the fact he has beagle in him, he’s happiest by your side.  He’ll follow me everywhere.  He loves to play with the other dogs and would work as either a family dog or a one person dog.  He just wants someone to love him.

The shelter is always at maximum for stray or surrendered pets so I've started taking in other breeds, as well as Australian Cattle Dogs.  The dogs listed above were all on the euthanasia list and if they had not been brought to the farm would be dead.  This is a cruel, but true fact.  Please contact me if you are interested in any of the above dogs.  If you do not see one here that you want, please visit the shelter website:   www.greenriveranimalshelter.org and adopt a pet before it's too late.
Thank you for anything you can do to help.
